Grace Estates Winery, White Hall, VA

Afternoon View from Skyline Drive

Painted this from Jewel Hollow Overlook on Skyline Drive a few weeks ago and enjoyed the light. The distant mountains are the Massenutten range. This will be hung at River District Arts gallery, 16" x 40" oil on canvas, framed.

Barn on Wheeler St, Little Washington, VA

Painted this on Saturday afternoon in Little Washington, as well as a house across from it. I don't think anyone uses this . . . I always think of them as fixer-uppers! 11" x 14" oil on canvas, framed, $250.

Little Washington, VA

Painted this at 537 Main Street, Little Washington, two weekends ago when I was up in Sperryville. So many wonderful homes and spots to paint, next time I will stop by and find another one. This will be in the show along with several other paintings of mine, plus a dozen plein air painters @ River District Arts. Wintergreen, Looking North East to Charlottesville

Buck Hollow Overlook, Skyline Drive, Above Sperryville, VA

Painted this past weekend up in Sperryville with a dozen other plein air painters, with River District Arts Gallery. There will be a show there starting August 16 - October 12. Looking forward to seeing what everyone did, and will post my other paintings soon. It was great fun  . . . and thanks to Donal and Elena for letting me stay at their farm house! Two Barns, Highland County, Virginia

Unusual barn shape on this farm in Highland County that I found on Wimner Road, outside of the town of Blue Grass. I also loved the steep slope of the hillside behind it. 16" x 20" oil on canvas, framed  $375.

Craigsville, Virginia

A garden, barn and lots of sheds near the road north of Craigsville on Route 42. I painted this after I dropped off paintings to the Bath County Art Show two weekends ago. Next time I will paint the house with more sheds and building around it. I love trying to figure out the order of which they where build and for what purpose. 12" x 36" oil on canvas, framed  $475.

The Mill, New Hamden, Blue Grass Valley, VA

If you know Blue Grass Valley in Highland County, you will know this mill that is being renovated this year and will be fabulous once it is complete. Crozet Hay Field, Virginia

I am standing on my property line looking behind my house to the neighbor's field . . . not bad, huh? I had to paint this before they moved the bales and was in the shade the whole time, lucky me! 24" x 48" oil on canvas, framed  $1,225.

Ginseng House, Highland County, VA

Painted this at the Highland County Paint Out this past weekend with a dozen painters. This was a farm house on Ginseng Mountain Lane in Blue Grass, 11" x 14" oil on canvas, framed $250.

Blue Ridge Overlook, Wintergreen, VA

I went to Art Camp for grown-ups two weeks ago and had such fun with 12 other ladies staying at http://www.campmontshenandoah.com/ a girls camp that for 20 years, has opened their arms to artists for a weekend before the counselors and girls come . . . and they feed us too! Pharsalia, Tyro, Virginia

Chile's Shed I, Crozet, VA

Painted this spring at Chile's with this cherry tree in bloom next to the shed. I have painted all around Chile's but never in this spot before. I have a second one to post soon too. Sleep Bear Dunes National Shoreline, Michagan

This is a commission for a couple who live in Virginia but visit Glen Arbor in the summer time. They asked me to paint this scene once they heard I have relatives who live there and had painted Sleeping Bear Dunes a few summers ago. It was fun to take me back to this wonderful beach. Bucks Elbow, Crozet

Went back up this afternoon to finish this painting that I started earlier this week, it's way up on the mountain behind our house on private property looking east to White Hall. What was interesting is the trees up top are not leafing out yet but I could see the mountains below with the beginning of the spring green creeping up the mountains. Jarman's Bales II, Crozet

Small Plein Air Paintings

Crozet Field II

Chloe and I went back to this field in Crozet and painted this on April 1, and the clouds came out but still enjoyed the day painting. March Field in White Hall, Virginia

March is a fun time to paint because it is between seasons. The red tops of the maple trees are coming out and yet the grasses aren't greening up yet. It was a windy but warm afternoon. 24" x 36" oil on canvas, framed,  SOLD thanks Barbara!

Fall on the Blue Ridge, Virginia

Here is the painting I demonstrated for Red Hill Elementary School last Friday. Eileen French and I were ask to be part of a larger group that showed students different things they could learn about from bee keeping, fire fighting, to cooking, spinning wool or to painting.  Just painted this in the last few days, it was sunny but very windy and had to 'hold down' the canvas! The colors are not quite right in this photo so I will try to re-post later. Cyrus McCormick Farm, Raphine VA

Painted with five ladies from our painting group on Saturday and the weather was warm and breezy, had to take off a few layers by the end. I am looking at the barns at The Shenandoah Valley Agricultural Research and Extension Center, which is across the road from McCormick. Love those barns!  12" x 24" oil on canvas, framed $300. February Snow I

Painted this two days ago behind my house, can you find my neighbor's home? It was great to get out in the snow and hope to each day this week before it all melts. Pony Express Road, Greenwood VA

Painted this fall on Pony Express Road in Greenwood and finished in the studio recently. (I have a new photo program called Pixelmator and haven't figured out how to lighten a painting yet, which this one needs.) A painting I did a few years ago that I have gone back and beefed up a bit of the colors, I felt it needed it. I love this barn which is near Mint Springs Park in Crozet, just down the road from me.
