Three Ridges, Wintergreen

Grace Estates, Fall

Old Rag from Thorofare Mtn Overlook

Went up this summer to paint Old Rag from Therofare Mountain Overlook. The temperature was perfect, not too hot and it was a clear day. Afton Mountain Vineyards

Laurel Point Retreat

This is the panoramic view from Laurel Point Retreat in Monterey, Virginia. I painted there the end of June with several other painters for the Paint Out with the Highland County Arts Council. This was my fifteenth year of going! I don't know why I love doing these distant views, but I keep coming back to them. Sunflowers at Chile's Peach Orchard

Had fun painting at Chile's several times with three other painting friends this month. We would go early in the morning and stop around 9:30 because it became too hot. Two Barns

This was painted in Highland County in June on Sugar Maple Road near Glue Grass valley. I was staying with four other painters in a rented house, looking at Snowy Mountain. We had a beautiful long weekend! 11" x 14" oil on canvas, framed $275

Monticello's Garden

Painted this summer from a painting I had done a few years ago plus a photograph I took of the garden. This was too big to paint on location! 36" x 36" oil on canvas, framed $1,800. Showing now at UVA McIntire School of Commerce, The Connaughton Gallery, until March 5.

Winter Snow Scene

This winter scene was painted last year during a spell of cold and snow, just like we have right now! I always love the cool colors of the shadows contrasting the white and warm colors in winter. Sugar Hollow, Crozet

Painted this with my friends Lee, Jenny and Carol this fall at the stream that comes off the Sugar Hollow Reservoir. We spent most of the day there enjoying the fall colors and reflections! 24" x 24" oil on canvas, framed $750. Will hold this for my show at UVA's McIntire School of Commerce in January. Humpback Mountain from Chiswell Vineyards

This summer a friend and I painted one late afternoon at Chiswell Vineyards that has such a great view of Humpback Mountain. It also has last year's hay bales out in the field, which made it more interesting. 24" x 48" oil on canvas, framed in Virginia cherry wood, $1,550. SOLD

Back Field, Crozet

This painting was done behind my house of my neighbors back field, in late October. I love how the bales sit with the light + shadows, they have been picked up by the farmer recently. 24" x 36" oil on canvas, framed $950. Mint Springs, Crozet

Mint Springs is our Crozet local receation park that has a playground, many trails for hiking and this pond for swimming + a fishing pond below. This is where my two sons took swimming lessons a long time ago. Jenny and I went there a few weeks ago on a warm Sunday morning when the leaves where gorgeous. 12" x 24" oil on canvas, framed $300. Ginseng Farm, Highland County

Painted this in October when we stayed in Highland County and also hiked and painted at Dolly Sods. This is a farm I have painted before and love the mountains in the background and the way the house and shed sit near each other. 12" x 16" oil on canvas, framed, $285.

Lavender Farm, Lexington

Painted with two other friends at Tantivy Lavender Farm, not far outside of Lexington, VA. The big mountain is called Hog Head Mountain, which folks from around there would recognize. 16" x 20" oil on canvas framed, $425

Fog & Mountains

Painted this near Buena Vista, VA this past weekend at the home of a friend. It was early morning and the fog settled in between the mountains, we painted from the deck. 8" x 24" oil on canvas, framed, $275.

Spider Lilies

Painted this Plein air with a friend at Foxhaven, Jane Heywood's garden, which is part of UVA. These are known as resurrection lilies or spider lilies. This painting is 24" x 24" oil on canvas, framed, $650. I am saving it for a large show at the McIntire School of Commerce, UVA in January. I am saving many paintings for that show, and will not be at the Crozet Festival this weekend because of it. More information to come on this show!

Massanutten From Loft Mountain

Highland, Fence and Pond

Painted this at the end of June at the Highland Artist Paint Out. I was with seven other painter friends plus several other folks from far and near. We rented two houses and painted over four days, great food, laughs and company. This was my thirteenth year, we skipped one with Covid but managed the next year. Upper Bundoran Farm

Upper Bundoran Farm is unique and was part of the Historic Garden Week in Virginia. So it was a treat to go and walk around the grounds and garden area. There were five of us painters invited to join in on the fun! This is a yellow red bud, which I had never seen and enjoyed painting. 9" x 11" oil on canvas, framed. UVA Garden, Pavilion III

Chile's Peach Orchard in Bloom

This was painted on location up the road on Jarmans Gap, across from Chil'es old barn. These were the first of the peach trees that were blooming. Different varieties bloom at different times.
