King Family Vineyards II

King Family Vineyards

The first of four paintings done at the King Family Vineyards recently, I will post the other ones soon. This one shows the vines in front of the two main buildings. It is actually hard to get a spot with the vines, buildings and the mountains all together because most of the vines are farther from the winery.

Sugar Loaf Road

Yesterday Polly and I went and found this great location on Sugar Loaf Road off of Middlebrook Rd outside of Staunton. We were on our way to pick up paintings at the Bath County Art Show and knew to take our paints with us! And when getting there I found out I had sold two paintings and received a small award  :  )    This is 12" x 36" oil on canvas, framed  $375.

Above the Parkway

Shenandoah Valley Floor

Upstream, Cowpasture River

Single Bale II

Last painting at North Mountain Vineyards that I have to show . . . late in the afternoon and I was under some shade. I like this composition and the way the fields flow.  This single bale was patiently waiting for someone to come fetch him . . . I had to paint this scene . . .  6" x 10" oil on board, framed, $125.  SOLD

Down Stream on the Rivanna River

This was started awhile ago with some friends on a plein air outing on the banks of the Rivanna River at Darden Towe Park in Charlottesville. I have now had time to finish it in this hot weather! 24" x 30" oil on canvas, framed  $685. On hold
Just put three paintings in the Bath County Art Show which is up from July 21 - 29th. And a painting in the Juried Landscape Exhibit at Beverly Street Studio School's gallery in Staunton, Virginia, which is up from July 27 - August 28 . . . come out to either or both of these shows if you can!

Blue Flags

This was another painting from North Mountain Vineyards where there are blue flags on all the new vines in this patch of vineyard. 11" x 14" oil on treated board, framed $225.  SOLD  thanks Melissa

Veritas Evening

Study of Treeline I

A smaller study of the treeline I did before the larger one, this is what you call a quick-draw, to paint it fast with simpler strokes, it helps you made decisions and catch what is important.  8 1/2" x 8 1/2" oil on board, framed $125  SOLD

Here is a small painting I did before the workshop at North Mountain Vineyards on Friday night near the entrance. No mountains in this scene but I was in the shade so that was important. 8" x 10" oil on canvas, framed $125.  SOLD

Here is one of the paintings from Ron Boehmer's workshop this past weekend near Woodstock, Virginia. Great group and wonderful instructions at a quiet small location, North Mountain Vineyards. Cowpasture River Studies

Here are three little studies from this weekend at Camp Mont Shenandoah on the Cowpasture River near Goshen, Virginia. It was an artists retreat with 20 wonderful creative folks and a relaxing setting. I did two large paintings as well which need a bit more work on them, and I will post soon.

Definitely going back next year . . . tons of fun and relaxing!
Now off for another adventure, going to Bloomington, IN tomorrow for 5 days to visit our son and girlfriend . . . and hopefully paint as well!

Veritas Vineyards

 

Here are the two paintings I did today at Veritas Vineyards for a commission as a gift to someone who got married there . . . they will pick one of them.  The first one has Wintergreen Mountain behind the grapevines. The second one is a nice garden shed and chicken house with the vineyard behind it. 11" x 14"' oil on canvas, framed  $225.

Buena Vista, Virginia

Angie's Favorite View

This is a commission for Angie and it looks out on the mountain that Wintergreen Resort is based plus Humpback Rocks. It is almost finished and I want to thank Julie for letting me paint in her gazebo that gave me this wonderful view and kept me cool. I am working on three other commissions and those folks are patiently waiting for me to finish their paintings, those are coming soon!  24" x 48" oil on canvas, framed.  SOLD thanks Angie!

Wintergreen Show

Had fun this weekend up at the Memorial Weekend at Wintergreen, much cooler up on the mountain top. Lots of live music, food and brews . . . many people came out. (You can see my booth in the center of the bottom photo, I had a good spot!) And Julie just emailed and wants the Winter Scene painting . . . hey! Thanks Julie!

Buena Vista

 

My friend Virginia Moore invited me to come paint with her in Buena Vista this past week. We had a hoot and swam in the Maury River just behind her house (which is in a 100 year floor zone). I will show both paintings once they are finished.

Shenandoah Valley

Thomas Jefferson's Garden

Today's adventure up on TJ's mountain at Monticello, Polly and I went painting and the weather was P E R F E C T ! Here is the edge of the gardens with Brown's Mountain in the back ground.  We have pledged to ourselves to come up several times this year, and I even bought a year-long pass! 20" x 24" oil on canvas, framed, $450.  SOLD

Chile's Peach Orchard Road

Several of us gathered at Chile's Peach Orchard on Sunday for live music, picking strawberries and of course plein-air painting! It was packed with families and fun . . . even though it was very overcast. I did two paintings and this being the first one, 12" x 12" oil on canvas framed, $175. New Barn, Greenwood

I had so much fun painting this last week and love the new barn that was just finished. The old one sadly burned down last year and this one is placed on a different angle. Clifton Forge Workshop

I went to a Plein-Air Painters Workshop this weekend at Clifton Forge School of the Arts, Charlie Hunter was giving it. There were ten of us and it was thoroughly enjoyed by all. He taught us to paint with a very limited palette and below are his painting he did this weekend.

The setting was the town of Clifton Forge and we walked all around and set up our easels  . . . the first day I didn't really "get it" with the limited palette and I didn't have the correct surfaces to paint on.

Italy painting

This is a VERY belated gift to a distant cousin in Italy . . . being hand-delivered by my step-brother to his daughter who is over in Bologna, Italy for the semester . . . having a grand time! Just thought I would share . . . 8" x 8" oil on board.

Miller School Barn

I know this is not the best photo but I will try to replace it when I can . . . this was from last weekend on Sunday at Miller School when it started out hazy and cool but turned 89 degrees and sunny. So I didn't change the sky and back mountains because as a plein-air painter you paint what you have. Really enjoyed the opening tonight, thanks to Sharon, Annie and the chef's . . . and everyone who came out!
