Two Barns in February

Karen and I did this painting as a warm-up the other day near our home. It feels so good to get out and paint each day, but cold weather is coming. Will try to get out there, looking forward to Spring! 7" x 16" framed, oil on MDF board, $125.  SOLD

Spring Growth I

Eileen and I went out yesterday and painted this view near some friend's house. It was 65 degrees out and so wonderful! This painting is 20" x 20" framed, oil on canvas, $400.  SOLD

Dirt Road and Peach Trees

It was so warm and nice yesterday, today and the next three days that we are planning some painting time outside. I did this one yesterday down the road from my house. Fence and Mountains

I painted this today from a photo from up on the top of the mountain from Wintergreen going over to Waynesboro, don't know the name of the road. Couldn't understand what the owner was trying to keep out or keep in with this fence. Not a typical fence for cattle! 7" x 10" on MDF board, $135 is at  http://charlottesvillearts.com/

The New Crop

Neighbor's Home

I had started this painting last week with Eileen but hadn't gotten very far b/c we got chilled. So, it was very warm this afternoon and I went out and had fun finishing it. I was interested in the contrast of the distant hillside and the foreground. 12" x 12" oil on MDF board, framed $150. SOLD

Backyard View

This is the hillside behind my house, and Eileen and I got out yesterday when it was warm. But after an hour it got really windy and cold so we came in for tea and a snack. 8" x 10" on treated paper, framed. $140.  SOLD

Whitehall Vineyard

This is the painting that I did this Sunday when it was warm and sunny. It felt so nice to get out and paint especially since we hadn't had nice weather for a while. Someone had asked me to paint up at this site, and yes she has bought it! It is on MDF board and is 8" x 24" SOLD.

Highland Garden

This is a painting I am also saving for our Highland Maple Festival that I painted last year. It is our friend Patti's backyard at a home she was care-taking. Highland Hillside II

This is from a photograph from our trip out to Highland County last year. Three of us are doing a show there at The Maple Festival which goes for two weekends in March, the 12 &13 and the 19 & 20.  Usually one is very wet or snowy and the other is beautiful! Fall on the Parkway

This is one of the larger paintings that I started this past fall and just finished. It is from one of my favorite spots, the second pullout on the Blue Ridge Parkway going south from top of Afton mountain. Right before this spot we have the parkway, Skyline Drive, Interstate 64, Route 250 AND The Appalachian Trail all going through this ONE AREA! They overlap and cris-cross each other, there are so many views to paint here! 30" x 40" framed, oil on canvas. $1,100.  SOLD

Mountain Pass

This is what I painted yesterday from a photograph I took this fall up on the Parkway. I don't remember exactly where I was . . . The snow was falling here yesterday, only an inch or so but I was 'out on the Parkway' in mind and spirit! 20" x 20" $400 framed. SOLD

Whitehall Barn II

This was painted last week when Polly, Eileen and I went out on a warm day . . . the morning was warm and sunny but by the time we got there in the afternoon it had turned stormy, colder and breezy. It was so nice to get back out to paint! 18" x 24" framed, oil on canvas, SOLD

Ridge Top View

OK, I don't do this very often, but I wasn't happy with the last painting so I painted over half the painting! You could only tell perhaps by comparing but I have deleted the other one, since it no longer exists . . . I am much happier with my new results! So, it is still the same view of the Blue Ridge Mountains up at Wintergreen where the mountains seem to go forever. 12" x 48" framed, $550, oil on canvas.   SOLD

Subtle Colors

This is another warm-up exercise from a photo from my neighborhood! It is important to sometimes do simple paintings that can show the subtle colors. This blue really is all around me with the mountains and a certain atmosphere.  Not today though, cold, gray and damp out, going to rain/snow tonight.  8" x 10" framed, oil on canvas $125. SOLD

Road and Mountains

This is a small painting I did the other day as a warm-up exercise working from a photograph also over in the valley. It is such fun to get back into the swing of things again :-)  I am working on a few larger paintings which I will post soon, when they are further along.  8" x 10" framed, oil on canvas.  SOLD

Three Barns

A simple setting with the three barns was from a photo over in the Shenandoah Valley. My Husband and I road around yesterday and took some wonderful photographs. 8" x 10" framed, oil on canvas, $140. 

Painted Violin

This violin plus 16 others will be auctioned by the Charlottesville High School Orchestra to raise money for its trip to Italy this summer to participate in a music festival. I don't know the dates yet, but will add them when I find out. This was fun to paint, even though I sat for months pondering what to do . . . once I got started, it just came to me. Highest bid was $340!!! SOLD

Jarmans Gap View

This is a painted I did plein-air last year and have donated to The Crozet Park http://www.crozetparkpool.com/ and we are holding it for the owner until Christmas. So, I decided to share it with you . . . . it was a fun day to paint, and I am planning to go back again this Spring.  20" x 20", oil on canvas. SOLD

Henley's Barn, Crozet Virginia

Sorry for being away for so long, Christmas time and all . . . but here is a favorite of mine I had forgotten to show, I was out one cold February day last year. Henley's is a farm near here that has wonderful orchards and I often paint their barns. I loved the way the bales of hay where right in front of this barn. Mirador Farm

Whitehall View West

This was started a while ago, and I had just gotten back to it. Those are grape vines in the distance at a vineyard down the road. I did this one with Polly and Nancy up at Whitehall Community Center.  10" x 24" $250, framed.  SOLD

Three Bales, Crozet

These three bales caught my attention, waiting patiently to be picked up and placed with the others! This is a farm near my house that I was able to go to one afternoon the other week.  18" x 24", oil on canvas, $400.  SOLD

Field Study II

Eileen and I bundled up and went out to paint this afternoon and went to where some Alpaca's are but they didn't stay still for us so we painted the field instead. 8" x 10", oil on board. $125  SOLD

Above Chile's Peach Orchard

This painting was done last weekend when the weather was just so incising and beautiful so I went up above Chile's Peach Orchard and had fun painting this! It is already SOLD! I am actually looking forward to painting outside this winter and sharing what I see then from this spot as well as other places I have scoped out!  12" x 48" oil on canvas.

Chile's Peach Ochard, November

I painted this earlier this week with all this amazing warm weather . . . going out right now to paint, 70 degrees today! I was out yesterday working on a large painting in my neighborhood that is 36" x 48", will show when I am done.  8" x 10" framed, $125.  SOLD

Sugar Grove, Pendleton County

This painting just found a new home in Atlanta, GA . . . thank you Melissa and family, I am so happy it found a great home :-)  it is VERY large, 42" x 46" and had hung at Hot Cakes all last year. I am delighted! SOLD

Above the Parkway

This painting I did with Eileen last week and we went to a friend of mine's home ABOVE the Blue Ridge Parkway! It is amazing being that high up, we had just enough time and light to capture this scene.

Field Study I

White Hall Farm, Fall

Eileen and I painted up in White Hall last week where these two abandoned buildings are. The late afternoon was wonderful light but then it got too dark and changed on us. These are small buildings and the shadow on the roofs made them look bright blue.  11" x 17", framed, $300.  SOLD

Chile's Peach Orchard, Fall

 

Just got back from painting this at our beloved Chile's Peach Orchard, right down the road from my house. Everywhere the leaves are so wonderful that I am determined to go out each day until they are all gone! I could paint a dozen right from that one spot, just by turning a bit for a new composition . . . I am at the railroad tracks and turning around I look down the hillside, maybe tomorrow I will show you :-)  16" x 20" $350, framed. SOLD

Miller School Barn, II

Blue Ridge View II

This is a smaller version of the 12" x 48" I posted last week. Eileen and I went up to paint on the Blue Ridge Parkway at the same spot but different view, and we weren't sure if it was going to rain or not. So, it did rain a bit, but we found shelter under my van-rear-door and kept painting.  8" x 24" oil on MDF board, framed, $275  SOLD

Harpers Ferry Tunnel

This was painted the next day at Harpers Ferry with Susan. Very simple painting, it looks small but actually a very large tunnel. Fun day to paint! 12" x 12" oil on canvas, framed $150.  SOLD

Harpers Ferry, WV

Here is my newest panoramic that I did last week with my friend Susan Graeber. We stayed at www.theledgehouse.com This is right at the point where the Shenandoah River meets the Potomac River and John Brown was held captive in 1859 at Harpers Ferry, WV. Blue Ridge View

I went up twice in the last few weeks to paint this and it was interesting to see the changes in colors. I have painted from here in the past and always catch a different section or time of year. Mirador Farm

This was painted last week with my friend Eileen. We had gone back to this same site a week before and I started a really big one, 36" x 48" but VERTICAL for a commission. We were thrilled to see that the bales where still there, and I wanted to do a panoramic view of this farm. Mirador farm is where the "Gibson Girls" lived way back in the 20's I think. (Sorry that the photo has a shadow on the right hand side.) This is hanging at the show at Westminster Canterbury for the month of November.  12" x 48" $550. SOLD

Bridge Meets Land

This painting I am posting from my Norfolk Paint Out trip. I painted this the last day before I left. Thanks so much to my hosts, Ann & Larry for the good time and great neighborhood to paint in. Rose Hill Farm

This is the small one I did the week we were at Rose Hill Farm two weeks ago. Miller School Barn

This was painted this past Saturday on the upper meadow above Miller School, near Crozet. There were about 18 painters who came out for the 1st annual Paint-Out that the school sponsored. This old abandoned barn is wonderful and many of us decided to paint it. I did a smaller one too, which I will post later. Thank you Miller School and faculty! Wintergreen Mountains

Greenwood, Virginia

Here is a large painting I have been working on and this field is close to my home. The leaves are just now changing and I love trying to catch them! I just did the Crozet Arts & Craft Show this weekend, thanks to everyone who came out, I had a great show!  24" x 48" oil on canvas   SOLD

Rose Hill Farm

Karen, Eileen and I have spent two or three afternoons painting at this site this week. I did this larger painting plus a smaller one. To the right of these buildings was a large European style barn that burned down a few months ago. Everyone was sad to see it go! This is a great size to do as a vertical painting, my new favorite!

Highland County Hillside II

This painting was done the last morning we were in Highland and is a recognized farm for the area. We got permission to park in the driveway of the lucky man with this view. We made a promise to each other that we would come back in the Spring to paint for a week! We are also going to do the Maple Festival which is two weekends in March in Monterey, VA.
