Painted Violin, Blue Ridge Mountains

A donation to the Charlottesville High School Orchestra, who every four years takes the whole group on an adventure to play in a distant county, this year they are going to Ireland in June. This is my third time to paint a (dysfunctional) violin, which they collect during the four years. They are being shown at our Charlottesville Downtown Mall store windows for the next month, then they will be bid on through https://betterworldcollective.com/

White Hall, Virginia

Painted this the other day when it was 65 degrees and sunny with my friend Jenny at the White Hall Community Center. The view is looking west with the center at our backs. (The painting is not as dark as it looks here!)   8" x 24" oil on canvas, framed, $250  SOLD

Blue Ridge Parkway, Fall IV

Just finished framing this painting that I started this past fall up at my favorite spot! The Sue Max had just turned red . . . no wonder I love this place! 24" x 48" oil on canvas, framed  $1,250   SOLD

Ivy, Virginia

Painted this for a friend, Beth who will be moving to this spot this year in Ivy, Virginia. The sun was out and a beautiful day to capture it. The photo on the bottom was taken in the sun and the other in the shade back at home. Interesting how different they look, and two different cameras!

Mormon's River, Albemarle County Reservior

Painted a quick study of the Mormon's River, the smaller painting, and then the larger one this past Saturday with two friends, Jenny and Barbara. It was a foggy and cool day, but we were happy to be outside painting! 4" x 12" & 9" x 20"

Two Sheds, Crozet

Painted on a warm sunny day, two sheds,  . . . really as a warm-up exercise. Had fun just getting outside and back to it!  (they both need a tad more work)

Old Trails, Crozet

Happy New Year! I had a great 2016 and hope you all did as well.

This was painted this past fall when I went with friends for a long weekend in Highland County, and stayed at our friend Patti's place. It was early morning when the sky was warm, and the weather held out for us the whole time. 12" x 16" oil on canvas, framed $250  SOLD

I will post my 2017 plans once they are worked out, but we do have a few adventures up our sleeves! Stay tuned! Our son Ben is off today to New Zealand for three months with lots of fly fishing to be done.

Crozet Hillside III

House Mountain, Lexington VA

Monticello's garden painted from a study I did a few years ago, as a commission which is going to Florida in early December. Too hard to get a large canvas on site but maybe next year I will try it.

Blue Ridge Parkway, VA

Another from my favorite spot on the parkway! This one I started a few weeks ago for a commission. I also went up again last week (and started another) with my friend Jenny, I am still working on that one. I am interested in how it is always changing and what I learn from painting a familiar location. They are each different but similar with the changing seasons!  Thanks Kat & Patrick!

House Mountain, Lexington, VA

Had a ton of fun at the 'Lexington Paint Out' two weeks ago, and painted twelve paintings, some I am finishing up now. This one of House Mountain was painted from Susan Harb's second floor doorway, and her new studio and home! Thanks to everyone at the Nelson Gallery for hosting us, and a fabulous dinner and opening! 15" x 30" oil on canvas, framed  $450.

Humpback Mountain, Afton, VA

Painted this from a farm I have permission to go to in Greenwood. This is the view of where Wintergreen Resort is that I go and paint near the top of the mountain. 18" x 48" oil on canvas, framed  $1,000.  SOLD thanks David & Pamela!

Palmer Barn, Cataloochee, NC

Had fun painting this the last full day we were in the Smokies, at Cataloochee. I also painted the Palmer house and the little white shed in the back. I loved the ladder up to the loft. 12" x 12" oil on canvas, in gold frame, $245.

Messer Barn, Smoky Mountians

We had a nice time in the Smokies all last week, hiking, camping and painting. This is the Messer Barn in Cataloochee, which had been moved and restored at this site, right along the stream. 11" x 14" oil on canvas, framed $225

Marjorie Kinnan Rawling's Home, Hawthorne, FL

In April we went down to Florida for a visit with family, and went to the Historic State Park of Marjorie Kinnan Rawlings. She wrote the Pulitzer Prize winning novel The Yearling, plus many other books from this house. The rural area is called Cross Creek, where she had orange groves, gardens and a quiet place to live and write. I so enjoyed spending the second day there painting.  8"x10" oil on board, framed $150 each

Blue Grass Valley's Mill, Highland County

Had fun painting this Mill in June during our weekend paint out in Highland County. The new owners have done a fabulous job fixing this old mill up to live in . . . would LOVE to see the inside!

Loft Mountain, Skyline Drive

Last weekend painting up @ Loft Mountain, Skyline Drive, David went hiking and I went painting!

Old Rag Mountain

We went up Skyline Drive for a day trip on Saturday, and I painted while David hiked. This was from the same location, Thorofare Overlook,  that I painted last year, but I just focused on the mountains this time. It was a wonderful temperature and clear of humidity . . . and a lot of greens! 16" x 40" oil on canvas, framed $800  SOLD

Three Sheds, Blue Grass Valley, VA

Painted this in June on our Highland County Paint Out, with the sheep grazed hillside behind these three sheds. Had fun with my seven other lady friends as we explored new areas to paint. 12" x 24" oil on canvas, framed $300. Displayed in my show for the month of August @ Creative Framing and the Art Box, in Crozet. Opening this Saturday, Aug. 13th from 4 to 6 pm, come join us!
