Lexington Paint Out

Posting these backwards, this is the last painting I did of five (one not completed) in the two days of painting at the Lexington Paint Out with the Nelson Gallery as the host. Bottom photo is at the opening with 24 guest artists and the public invited to the opening. The barn photo was taken when a huge cloud rolled in so you can't see the beautiful light hitting the barn. Painted all day at this site with Elizabeth Sauder (below in pink).

Somesville Sound, Acadia Maine

Very nice spot in the parking lot of The Gallery at Somes Sound to paint . . . I think several artist both from the gallery and ones like I who beg to set up there. Thank you to Tyra for the opportunity! 10" x 12" oil on masonite, will be framed.

Eagle Lake, Acadia Maine

Sand Beach, Acadia

Painted way up on the rocks above Sand Beach with a new friend Diana Cobb Ansley, whom I meet on Monhegan Island a few days before hand. It was fun to be up high looking down! Long Beach is the only real beach in all of Acadia. 10" x 12" oil on board, framed $150.

The Bubbles, Jordon Pond, Acadia

We had a great time at Monhegan Island and Acadia, Maine . . . I got to paint many times and David went hiking and birding. I need to work on a few of the paintings so will post when they are ready. It was amazing to have the time to enjoy and appreciate what Rockefeller gave to this country with Acadia, what a special place! SOLD

Beached Boat at Mountian Lake

Three Ridges, Wintergreen

Visited Julie and David's house up at Wintergreen two weeks ago and painted this plus another one. They have just about the best view from their new house on Black Rock Circle! The Narrows, Near Blacksburg, VA

This was started at UVA's Mountain Lake Biological Station in July near Blacksburg, VA. It was painted plein air and I went back a few times to work on it . . . also did a long thin one which I will post soon. I had a wonderful time there and made some new friends  :  )

Jarmans Gap Bales

I got on the field early enough to 'catch' the bales before they hall them away! That is Chile's Peach Orchard in the back ground, come out and pick your own if you are in the area.  11" x 14" oil on canvas, framed  $225,  SOLD

Little River, Smoky Mountains

Second painting from the same spot on the Little River where we also swam that day. It was fun to paint those big boulders. I didn't get a chance to paint up on the mountain top but hope to from this photograph sometime soon.  8" x 10" oil on canvas, framed  $150, SOLD

Little River, Smoky Mountains, Tennessee

Had a great time camping, hiking and painting in the Smoky Mountains with my husband, his sister and niece from Florida. We stayed at the Elkmont camp grounds right next to the Little River which was very refreshing to swim in. We hiked all around to waterfalls and local sites. David took this photo of me painting the above painting . . . a really concentrating face!  SOLD

Crazy Rocks I & II, Giles County

There is a special place up at Mountain Lake Biological Station near Blacksburg, that is called Crazy Rocks.  These paintings do not do it justice but I tried! If I go back, I will paint there again, great trails all around too. 8" x 8" oil on board, framed  $150

Single Shed, Highland County

This single shed is in Blue Grass on the main road just down the road from our friend Patti where we stayed. Had a great weekend at the Highland Paint-Out! 12" x 24" oil on canvas framed, $300.

Porterfield Lane, Rt 700

Wanting to paint a few barns, I found this spot below Mountain Lake on Rt 700, and met a few of the Porterfield family who came over to see what I was up to. I changed it a bit by straightened the foreground barn but all-in-all, happy with how it turned out. 12" x 24" oil on canvas, framed $300. SOLD

Above Blacksburg, VA

I spent the past week at Mountain Lake Biological Station near Blacksburg, VA and this is the view from Rt 700 going up the mountain. I did a larger painting at this spot too but it's not finished. It was an artist-in-residence with over a dozen artist from all around (two from Australia) doing artwork related to the natural setting of this beautiful location. We were among 30 some students and professors at University of Virginia, I felt lucky to be invited and thoroughly enjoyed it.

 Here are just two photos to give a feel of the location, Lewis is the science lab and main building and the pond, so wonderful!
The painting is 12" x 48" oil on canvas, framed  $550.

Jarmans Gap Evening Hay Bales

This painting I started a few weeks ago across the road from my house. They move the bales FAST, so I went out two evenings in a row. 16" x 40" oil on canvas, SOLD up at Wintergreen this weekend, thanks Kristin!
Going today for a week long artist retreat at Mountain Lake, Virginia . . . don't know if I can post from there, but will try!

The High Road in Blue Grass, Highland County

I had a great time at the Highland Paint-Out this weekend and stayed with my friend Patti, my husband came too and a fellow painter Barbara . . . lots of great food, wine and fun. Will take this up to Wintergreen Art Festival this weekend, come on up if you can! I also hung a show yesterday at Hot Cakes in Charlottesville, will post a photo of that soon. 16" x 20" oil on canvas, framed  $350.

Blenhiem Vineyards Barn

Went with a few painters last Friday to Blenhiem Vineyards and enjoyed painting this in the morning. I didn't get a chance to go to the tasting room afterwards but next time for sure.  11" x 14" oil on canvas, framed $225. Grace Vineyards, White Hall, VA

Mountains and Stream

Five Bales

Cowpasture River, Bath County

Study of the Cowpasture River

This was painted before dinner on Friday afternoon when I went down to see the river for the first time while being at Camp Mont Shenandoah for the artist retreat. The water was way up since it had been raining and the little beach where the tree in the foreground is, was barely visible.  8" x 10" oil on canvas, framed  $145, SOLD

Cowpasture River, Bath County, VA

Just got back from the an artist retreat at Camp Mont Shenandoah on the Cowpasture River with about 20 other artists. Great folks, wonderful food and FUN time by all. We dodged the rain, had wine and cheese over looking the river each night, and enjoyed each others company. Thanks to all! Three Bales, Crozet

I will re-photograph this image because it looks so dark, I took it when it was very overcast, . . . but running out the door to go to the Artist Retreat in Bath County on the Cowpasture River for the weekend. This was painted one late evening after dinner on Rt. 810 and is on Henley's Farm. Would love to paint a larger one there if they keep the bales on the field. 11" x 14" oil on canvas, framed  SOLD

Back Barn I

Last week several ladies and I went to King Family Vineyards and painted together there. This was our first time for meeting and we are hoping to get together a few times a month in different locations. This was painted early one evening last week up on the parkway right before a big storm came from the south with lightning and thunder . . . I got out of there quick!
