Time in Michigan

My fabulous time with my cousins, Ceci and Jandy, and Jandy's family near Glen Harbor, Michigan. Here at their Great Lakes Ranch, where they raise Alpacas in a beautiful setting, I got to enjoy 7 days of painting with Ceci. I promise to post the paintings next! Hollyhocks

Squeezing in one more painting before my trip . . . here are the lovely hollyhocks in front of one of the hoop-houses at Harvest Moon Flower Farm in Indiana. www.harvestmoonflowerfarm.com This was painted in June when we went to visit our son and Anna whose family own this wonderful farm. I was lucky enough to have a day to paint there, and finished this yesterday.  16" x 20" oil on canvas, framed $350. SOLD

Upper Meadow

Stuarts Draft, VA

I painted this about a month ago on the OTHER side of the Blue Ridge mountains, called Shenandoah Valley, looking east. This was a farm that had been recently plowed, with wonderful barns.

Madison County

Just wanted to share this painting that SOLD last week in Richmond through a gallery there . . . thanks BJ! It was painted in 2009 and is large, 46" x 56" oil on canvas. Great memories painting it!

James River

 

Here is what I painted yesterday when I went with my friend Joyce to Diane and Joe's property on the James River. What a great river to paint . . . there was a bald eagle in the tree near his nest, the sound of the rushing water and cold beer! I want to go back!  16" x 20" oil on canvas, framed, $325

Nelson County Farm II

Above Chile's Peach Orchard II

Here is the other painting I did with Eileen last week above the orchard . . . great views and a nice breeze up there. We almost stepped in some VERY fresh bear dung! I assured Eileen that he is long gone and that I would chase him away if he came back! We were very brave . . . 12" x 12" oil on canvas, framed $175  SOLD

Nelson County Farm III

Eileen and I got out the other morning to paint in Nelson County and painted a few small ones. We were high enough up to get some distance on the mountains.  8" x 8" oil on DMF board framed SOLD

The Coral

This painting was done a few years ago and was living in a near by restaurant. It was painted up in Maryland and I was intrigued by the path that the horses created as they left the coral. They came to visit me and watch me paint! 24" x 48" oil on canvas, framed, $900. SOLD

Flower Farm II

My second painting from Harvest Moon Flower Farm. They explained that they had cut so many flowers in the last week for a wedding and market, they apologized for not having more color! 6" x 12" NFS.

Snowy Mountain II

This is the second painting I did with Eileen the other weekend we were over in Highland County. We were in a driveway looking north at Snowy Mountain. 12" x 12" oil on canvas, framed $175.

The Creek

Highland Hillside III

Here is a the first painting that I did when Eileen and I where above High Town last Saturday morning. It shows how the ridges line up and the farm land is best for sheep. 12" x 12" oil on canvas, framed $175. SOLD

Crozet Pond's Edge

Here is a painting Eileen and I did two weeks ago, hiking through an apple orchard to get this view. I eliminated the black fences to make it a cleaner painting. That is called painter's privilege! This is Jarman's Gap and I live just below the gap, the Appalachian Trail goes right through there too. 12" x 24" oil on canvas, framed, $265. SOLD

Will be taking this up to Wintergreen Resort this weekend for a craft show, usually my best show for the year. They have fireworks on Sunday evening that are fabulous and families bring picnics and blankets to watch . . . always MUCH cooler up on the mountain . . . come on up if you are in the area!

Second Cluster of Buildings

This was painted at the same location as yesterdays post. It is on Gensing Mountain Lane (love that name), and all three of us painted there. A simple layout and composition. 6" x 12" oil on canvas, framed, $125. SOLD

Farm Cluster

This is my favorite painting from our Highland trip, painted on the first afternoon. We had painted there the year before and decided to go back. I think I'm going to hold onto this one for a while, it was just a fun painting to do and not ready to let it go! 9" x 12"  SOLD

Back Road

This is a small one I did at the end of our stay in Highland County but it really could be anywhere. 7" x 8" oil on MDF board, framed, $95. SOLD

White Hall Bale's

Eileen and I painted up in White Hall because the BALES where out! And I have done several other paintings with bales with the first cutting almost complete. This needs a bit of tweaking but will be ready to go to market soon. 12" x 48" oil on canvas, framed, $600  SOLD

Two Barns II

Eileen and I went out yesterday and painted for several hours . . . I did a large one that I will finish & post. But after, I did this small one with the singe bale. I have the studio all torn apart and the floors will be started on Monday. Will post a photo of my make shift studio on my porch, too dark right now. White Hall Farm

This was painted on site looking north-west in White Hall on a woman's property that I met. When I found out what house she lives in, I asked if I could paint in her front lawn because I knew she had a great view! 30" x 46" oil on canvas, $1,350.  SOLD, thanks Rachel and Peter!

Bird House

The Blue Ridge

Chile's Peach Orchard in Bloom

This is also for my show coming up for the month of June, Panoramic's of the Piedmont. Painted on site from my friend Gladys deck, looking out at this fabulous view this past Spring. I live walking distance, about a half a mile away. The low hillside is also all in peach trees, and the large mountain to the left is Buck's Elbow. I am very lucky to be a neighbor of all this! 12" x 48", oil on canvas, framed, $600.

Bluegrass Valley

My husband and I went to Highland County for the night on Friday, and I got to paint several small paintings. On Saturday morning, I painted on Laurel Fork Road as it is climbing the hill. This is the biggest of the paintings, 12" x 24" oil on canvas, framed $285. Will be at my show at the Gallery @ 5th & Water for the month of June.  SOLD

Casa Maria

I had forgotten to post this, which our painting group went out last summer and painted in Greenwood, on Rose Hill Farm. This pink house is a fun spot on a road that is lined with stone walls.

Veritas Vineyards

Eileen and I went to Veritas Vineyards last week and painted under a big maple tree. I didn't put in the buildings that are to the left of this painting so want to go back and do a different shape painting.

Maupin's Farm

This was painted on sight once with my friend Virgina, and then two days later. It's a big farm and a BIG mountain. It still needs a bit of work but it is close  . . . not the best photo so will re-post once I finish it. I have been painting a ton but just haven't been able to post them, will do so soon. I have a show coming up at The Gallery @ Fifth & Water for the month of June. Plus a show Memorial Day weekend up at Wintergreen. A big push to get ready :-)

Old Fence

Eileen and I painted this area the other day. This is on a horse farm but we needed shade, so we stood under some big trees. Even though no horses where around, we loved this old fence opening. 8" x 8" framed, oil on canvas, $110. SOLD

Fog on Jarman's Gap

This is the other painting we painted together at King Family Vineyards, Eileen, Virgina and I. After a while the sky got VERY dark and stormy, but this was before hand. 9" x 12" framed, SOLD

Florida Trip

Hi All, sorry for the big delay in posting . . . but my husband and I took a road trip to NC, SC, and FL for ten days! I ONLY got to paint at one spot but we did a ton of BIRDING to my husband's delight! I did get to go to the Evinston Paint Out, and what a great little town it is, (emphasis on little). It is sponsored by the Wood & Swink Preservation Society, trying to preserve the old store and post office. Would love to do it next year and will apply . . . (they put you up for a week and FEED you!) Non-stop painting for six days, how fabulous!

These two little paintings where done at O'Leno State Park in Florida. You can see the orange shellac that I paint on paper to prep it. I do this also on the paper that is mounted on masonite board before I paint, a trick I learned in art school. I haven't decided what I am going to do with these two little paintings yet. I took many photos but want to go back to paint plein air through out the area. Next time :-)

Spring Peach Blossom

Eileen and I went up to Chile's Peach Orchard the other day and painted . . . . it was such a gorgeous day! We hope to go back soon, but all rain today. (I did go back yesterday by myself and painted on Gladys porch that over-looks the orchard. A 12" x 48" painting that needs more work!).  16" x 20" framed, $350, SOLD

Chickens in Motion

Eileen and I went out the other day to a friends house who have these very active chickens! It was fun trying to catch them still, for a second . . . they also have baby lambs, will try to get back there.

Mint Springs Hollow

Here is a commission for a local friend and her family, they haven't seen this yet! They live in one of the houses up on the hill. It is the large field before the swimming pond called Mint Springs where our children learned to swim when they were young. This painting was done plein air, with two long sessions last Fall, then finished in the studio.   36" x 48" oil on canvas. Yes they want it! thanks Jenn and Jeff!  SOLD
