This was started last summer, and today was too cold to go outside so I decided to finish this painting in the studio. Jefferson Pool House, Warm Springs, Bath County, VA

This fall I went with several paintings friends and painted at the old Jefferson Pool Bath House. This is in Warm Springs and is a fun place to paint especially in the fall. We plan to go back . . . but today I finished this in the studio, since it was rainy all day.  11" x 14" oil on canvas framed, $250

Crozet Pond on Half Mile Branch Rd.

Painted this today when the sun came out, played with some of the colors a bit more, but had fun as always! This 'painting a day challenge' is well, a big challenge! and I am glad I have kick-started my year with it, where will I go tomorrow? Today's painting at my neighbor Chile's Peach Orchard, enjoying the view that I know so well! This is the building that they sell their fine fruit, jams and pies. 11" x 14" oil on board, framed,  $245.

Re-posting Sycamore Trees, Crozet, VA

 I went back today with this painting to re-work a few parts that I wasn't satisfied with, and am much happier with it now! Even though the main tree in in the center, I felt that enough was happening with all the chaos of the branches, it was OK. 12" x 14" oil on board, framed, $250.

Quick Paint, Jarman's Gap, Crozet

A quick painting, done in an hour as a study on Blair Park Rd next to where I live. I am standing next to a gate but it doesn't block my view at all, but is in front of the canvas. I wanted to see what I could do in an hours time, before the sun went down behind the mountain. (When I took the photo on site, I had not finished the painting.) Henley's Barn, Crozet

Perfect afternoon to get out and paint, nice and sunny, around 1:00 and 52 degrees! This is a farm I will come back to, views in every direction. I was told once that if the sky is cloudy or gray, as a painter, it is always better to paint water since it has a reflective nature, you capture more light. I realized my last three of five paintings have to do with water, and it has been cold and gray out! Winter Creek

Painted this as a studio painting from memory and a bit from a reference photo I had, since it has been so cold out. It was fun! Tomorrow they call for a bunch of rain, but still hope to do a van/painting somewhere close by.  9" x 12" oil on canvas, framed  $150.

Painted today from my van because of the wind, 40 degrees but with the wind, well, just easier! The branches in the winter have a very pink growth to them, will try to post a photo next. Pond on 250 West

Painted this from the inside, passenger seat of my van, my new idea when it is cold out! It wasn't above 20 degrees when I was out there. I still need to work on it a bit more. The pond was frozen and my colors are a bit off for the field . . . 10" x 10" oil on board, framed $125,  SOLD

Parkway Impression

This is my sixth painting in seven days, I started a day late but will make-up for it at the end, 30 Paintings in 30 days. It didn't get above 30 degrees today so painted this in the studio of the Blue Ridge Parkway. 6" x 12" oil on canvas, framed $100,  SOLD

Very windy and cold outside today but was sheltered a bit by my van at the Whitehall Community Center, a favorite place to paint. I am showing the antique frame that I found at a shop in town.

It rained all day today so this is a study from a photograph from the same pond with the cottage. Funny thing is, two brothers who grew up at this pond got married this summer, so this is also a belated wedding present! 6" x 12" oil on canvas, framed.

30 Paintings in 30 Days Challenge!

Well, I am taking the 30 Day Challenge that has been posted by several other painters for the month of January . . . actually folks do it whenever they feel inspired to. For me, I haven't done it in a long time, so even if I don't get to post each day, I will be PAINTING each day (and hope to post daily). I still have visiting family for a few more days, that is my excuse . . . but I did paint this yesterday, and painted today as well. Some paintings will be studio work, some quick studies outside, and I am looking forward to seeing what this challenge brings!

Maupin's Farm from Mt. Moriah United Methodist Church, Whitehall

Painted all day @ Mt. Moriah United Methodist Church on Garth Rd in Whitehall and did these four small paintings looking @ Maupin's Farm and the neighboring farm. It got up to 62 degrees in the sunshine, what more could a girl ask for! All SOLD

Bridgewater Field, VA

I painted this when I went to Bridgewater College to see an art show, and took my paints, and left several hours before I need to be there. I found this farm and open field, a dirt road to park in and set up my paints and easel. Last Monday Chloe and I got out to paint in Whitehall at Maupin's Farm, a large track of land with many barns and a pond. I have painted out there each year and try to do a different view. Laundry @ the Pond, Crozet

I have painted before at this pond that is across from our house, on a farm that was just sold. So, I took advantage of getting one more LARGE painting done this summer. Had a wonderful time at Bath County painting with Elizabeth, Jenny, Susan and Noaa as we camped out for two nights and painted as much as we could. Unfortunately, Sunday morning I had a mild stroke, and didn't know it at the time, until much later in the week. After 8 1/2 days in the hospital I am resting and expect a full recovery in due time. I am looking forward to getting back outside to these fall colors before they are all gone.

Old Rag from Skyline Drive
